“The garden doesn’t look the same year to year, have you noticed?”
I was in my brother’s garden with him, taking a walk after dinner when he made the comment.
And true, some things were seemingly growing better this year, some less so.
It’s a normal cycle in the natural world, I suppose. The weather is different year to year; the amount of rain, the timing of early Spring frosts, all of that. It made me wonder. Wonder what conditions had caused this year’s showing.
But what I really noticed was that we noticed, and that we were talking about it.
Having both reached a point in our lives when we could notice. Less drawn to the business of a younger life, we have the time to slow down, to look and to see. To notice, to reflect and to wonder
And that is the space and the energy of being an elder. We witness with perhaps less attachment; we notice.
Notice, wonder and time; just some of the magic of being elder
.

So beautifully described, so beautifully true! Thank you Martha
